CHARACTER
Name: Luciano Da Silva | Federative Republic of Brasil
Age: Appears 19, but has existed since late in the time of
Canon: Axis Powers Hetalia (Fanon Character)
Canon Point: Modern Day.
History: Wikipedia History of Brasil, with additions
Personality:
At 5 feet and 7 inches, Luciano can become the dominating presence in a room in only seconds with his boisterous personality, his charming sense of humour (or is it his charming obliviousness?) and his endless party attitude. He's friendly and affectionate, not afraid to hug or kiss his friends and acquaintances. He's touchy and connects through touch, but is quick to back off if he notices anyone's uncomfortable (unless that was his goal in the first place). Luciano can be a bit whiny, especially if he's been working hard– or worse, if it's cold outside. Once the weather hits 60F he's wary, and anything less than 50F renders him nearly useless. He loves attention and he'll do anything for it, whining included. If you’re like his neighbours and you think he’s dense, you’re falling right into his trap; he pretends to be because it wins him favour and charm, and makes everyone surprised whenever he says something insightful.
In his youth he was a bit of a mama's boy, spending his infancy in her care and learning the ways of the Tupinamba people, those who lived in his land before Portugal discovered them. His time around her allowed him to develop cunning ways of dealing with situations, though not everyone would believe him to be smart, and his problem solving skills– though not always conventional– are impeccable and not always only physical. He is the posterchild for o jeitinho brasileiro– the Brasilian way- of getting things done using whatever they have at hand; emotional resources, promises, blackmail… anything he can do by avoiding any possible rule and social convention. His mother's influence also connected him deeply to the wildlife and nature of his domain, and Luciano has very little fear of that which surrounds him; introduce something dangerous that isn't his, however, and you're sure to rile him up a little.
He is the only Portuguese-influenced nation in South America and though Luciano will be the first to admit his history is much luckier than that of his neighbours in South America, that never made things any easier. His biggest father figure, Afonso Silva (Portugal), forced him to learn Portuguese as a child and Luciano eventually forgot his mother tongue. However, this didn't prevent him from sharing a close bond with Portugal, much closer than most of the other colonies were to Spain. His independence was won without much blood and without war, but a part of Portugal stayed with him in the form of his ruler Dom Pedro– and in his inability to truly turn away from Portugal, embittered though he may have been about many things.
His independence may have been won without war, but Luciano is no stranger to war at all. If the topic is brought up, Luciano is likely to turn a bit cold and change the subject, however; he is deeply affected by those portions of his history as well as conflicted, and one of his grandest vices is that Luciano hates to show pain or feel it. Don't expect to get a conversation out of him; the crafty Brasilian has an endless repertoire of methods to derail a conversation.
There is one kind of war he'll speak of, however, with an unbridled passion, and these wars take place on grand green battle fields under huge flourescent lights, surrounded by crowds in sun or rain. Football, known to North America as Soccer, is one of the many things that fuel Luciano's great pride and he will never hesitate to brag about his personal skill, his wonderful teams, and his Fifa World Cups. There are five of them. You know, like the number of fingers on your hand? Count them, that's how many World Cups he's won. And don't worry, if you've forgotten, he'll be sure to remind you. Even if he doesn't win, however, you won't find him complaining too much (though he will complain, and if the loss is to Argentina, he'll raise hell) because football is more than just winning for him. Football is the game, the atmosphere, being on the field or in the stands. He adores football, he adores the uniforms, the gear, the bars you can watch football in, everything. The man worships football the way some people worship gods.
Speaking of worship, though his religions are mainly Christian, Luciano almost always tends to take a liberal stand on most issues, and his people seem to take it rather well. He appreciates love in all forms, gay or straight, and is the first country to allow polyamorous triad unions. Luciano's personal stances on love seem to be a lot more temporary, however; he'll never admit to a fear of commitment, but you won't ever see him taking his own relationships too seriously. This doesn't prevent him from being possessive, of course; his friends are his and will always be his, and though he won't say his lovers always will be, you'd better believe that while they are his, they are his alone.
Though Luciano's got the envy of all asses in South America, he'll be the first to remind you that he isn't all ass, telenovelas, and Carnaval. He's a party animal and takes a lot of pride in his music and dance culture, but he's also highly invested in his economy; green energy is becoming more and more important, his exports (including aircraft, electrical equipment, automobiles, and agricultural surpluses) are absolutely booming, and scientific research is also carving a niche in his universities. Luciano's not only proud of his sports, but of everything his people create, including these advances. He adores the fact that he's one of the emerging economies in the BRIC quartet, and feels that it's one of the things that will finally get other nations to regard him as mature.
Did he mention he was once an empire? Because he was once an empire. The Empire of Brasil. You know, the best empire there ever was? If you’ve forgotten, don’t worry. He’ll remind you about it, and one day he’ll win the lottery and buy Uruguay back. Uruguay’s doing fine, you say? Oh, of course he is– but he’ll be so much better when he’s back under the Brasilian empire!
Luciano can seem unrealistic, but while his adventurous propositions can seem outlandish, he knows what he's doing. He'll also be the first to admit that while he might always seem happy, he isn't. When times are tough, he considers it a great strength of his to be able to find something to smile about and keep marching through; when he's at his lowest, he always finds a way to pick himself up. However, his attitude can cause problems; he isn't too terribly empathetic and expects people to follow his example. He doesn't understand why other people can't buck up and act like things are fine, too, and this causes a few problems between Luciano and his friends.
Abilities/Strengths: Luciano considers himself a great cook and definitely strays to the spicier side of cuisine. He finds it to be a lovely pastime, but isn't as intense about it as a chef would be. He's athletic, too, though he has a bit of a slimmer build and a short stature. This doesn't prevent him from having a monkey-like skill for navigating around physical obstacles, and no fear of getting his hands (or feet) dirty. What he can't do with brute force he quickly learns other methods to complete, and is the king of circumventing social rules to get what he wants out of others. He's incredibly social when he's in a good mood and can command all the attention to himself as soon as he enters a room– and of course can turn any event into a real party. He also enjoys helping other people with small things. He’s incredible at picking himself up after getting down, and always seems to be able to look on the bright side.
Weaknesses: He absolutely hates to be bothered by other people's problems and arguments, and can appear insensitive when he's quick to take a side or even refuses to take a side. Being dragged into these such arguments makes him angry and abrasive, and he doesn’t exactly have a perfect temper. Luciano is selfish, adores attention, and lacks the ability to empathise with people instantly or even quickly at all. He has trouble understanding that not everyone can be as happy as he appears to be all the time and his constant smiling grates on his neighbours’ nerves at times. His way is the most important way and if you don’t want to do what he wants and aren’t particularly important to him, he’ll do what he wants to do without you. In fact, that seems to be the one exception to his socialness; if you don’t want to go out for drinks or party, he’ll do it anyway, even if it means going alone. He’s got a shit tolerance for alcohol and his imagination can lead him to believe he’s drunk even if he isn’t. His love for coffee can give him the jitters at times, too, and has made him sick more than once.
His greatest vices may lie in the fact that he has trouble admitting he’s wrong. He hates to speak of wars and past mistakes for this reason, and it also leads him to have trouble apologising and forgiving himself and others. Just like his neighbours, his pride knows no bounds.
Proud though he may be, however, he’s also got a lack of self-esteem that he hides behind that prideful mask. Every time something goes wrong, he starts to get a bit self-deprecating; even Luciano’s not infallible.
ARCANARUM
Story: The Three Caballeros / Los Tres Caballeros - A Disney Tale about Donald Duck, José Carioca, and Panchito Pistoles in which José Carioca and Panchito Pistoles give Donald Duck presents in the form of experiences of their cultures & lands (Brazilian and Mexican respectively) and band together to form The Three Caballeros.
Story Character: José/Zé Carioca. Portions of Carioca’s personality and powers are also pulled from his appearance in Aquarelas do Brasil as well as Saludos Amigos, in which he is described to be as superior to Donald Duck as Mickey Mouse is.
Plans: The primary change is in his wardrobe; what on earth are all these suits? Luciano thinks himself rather fetching in green pants and yellow suit jackets, however, and soon finds himself with a tail of feathers like Carioca’s spouting from over his tailbone. A more regal attitude will replace a bit of his boisterousness, as well as sudden craving for pulling pranks. A magic umbrella finds its way into his hands and a more gentlemanly Luciano finds the power of music inside of it. He’ll become an amazing singer– but also find a need to sing his points instead of speaking them, sparking random dance numbers in which he’ll find the magic to duplicate himself and interact with his duplicates. He’d find himself a bit more egotistical– but hmm, isn’t he already...?

Gloves of all things were nothing that Luciano was used to wearing. Suits were certainly out of the question as well. Still, for some reason, everything about his recent get-up just seemed to fit. He felt pretty proud, looking in that mirror and tightening his bowties in the morning– but life was pretty boring, even in a land of wishes. Wishes he’d taken good advantage of, of course, as he’d gotten himself a nice soccer ball to beat around and all his favourite meals. He’d been social as usual, but something still wasn’t sitting right.
It wasn’t his Brasil, and nothing in the world could make this little island his real-life wonderland. He missed the the way the air smelled, the way the grass felt beneath his toes, the way the streets were always filled with music and dancing. Luciano was homesick, and he felt horrible about it.
The one way to deal with homesickness was to learn to love the world around him, of course! After all, the only places he’d seen like this one were far-off nations. Luciano took to the streets, learning the music of his new surroundings, taking in the sight of every house and tree, until he found one to climb. The bark rough under his hands and shiny new shoes, Luciano sat on a branch and leaned back against the tree’s trunk, whistling a tune of his precious samba as he began to think. After all, this island had a lot to offer, didn’t it? No more work, all the wishes Luciano could wish, and no more responsibilities over so many troublesome things!
Best of all, he’d not have to deal with those pesky pains of the past for a long, long while. Maybe this island wasn’t so bad, after all– and after so long, maybe Luciano really did deserve a full vacation.
Letting his voice ring out loud and strong, he sang his happy little samba, closing his eyes and crossing his legs. Maybe it wouldn’t be so hard not to miss his precious Brazil after all.
